Patterns

August-June

Patterns are all around us. They help us make sense of things, including the arts. Come join us at Greenacres as we explore and create our own patterns.

Standards:

  • MU.6PR Play a variety of classroom instruments, alone and with others, and demonstrate proper technique.
  • MU.1CE Identify patterns of same and different phrases in simple poems and songs.
  • VA.7PE Generate artmaking ideas from their daily experiences and the environment.
  • 2.G.1 Recognize and identify triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, and hexagons based on the number of sides or vertices. Recognize and identify cubes, rectangular prisms, cones, and cylinders.
  • RL.2.4 Describe how words and phrases (e.g., regular beats, alliteration, rhymes, repeated lines) supply rhythm and meaning in a story, poem, or song.

Exploring the Arts Center

From the architecture to the organ, Greenacres Arts Center is full of beauty. Come as we explore the hidden treasures of the Arts Center!

Standards:

  • MU.1RE Recognize how music is used for a variety of occasions.
  • MU.7RE Discuss audience behavior appropriate for the context and style of music performed.
  • 1.G.1 Distinguish between defining attributes versus non-defining attributes; build and draw shapes that possess defining attributes.
  • 1.Geography.5 Places are distinctive because of their physical characteristics (landforms and bodies of water) and human characteristics (structures built by people).
  • 1.Geography.6 Families interact with the physical environment differently in different times and places.

Senses and Shapes

August-June

Use your senses to observe artistic creations and find out how shapes relate to these artforms.

Standards:

  • VA.7PE Explore their environments and experiences for artmaking ideas.
  • VA.4PR Reduce objects into basic shapes and lines in relation to the whole image.
  • MU.K.1CE Identify same and different (e.g., fast/slow, loud/soft, high/low and long/short).
  • MU.K.2CE Explore steady beat and rhythm.
  • K.G.4 Describe and compare two- or three-dimensional shapes, in different sizes and orientations, using informal language to describe their commonalities, differences, parts, and other attributes.
  • K.MD.1 Identify and describe measurable attributes (length, weight, and height) of a single object using vocabulary terms such as long/short, heavy/light, or tall/short.
  • K.PS.1 Objects and materials can be sorted and described by their properties.
