Summer Camps in 2012 have a few Garden Education camp offerings. Check out our listings.

Stewardship, sustainability, and basic horticulture are the primary topics of Greenacres Garden Education Program. The program began in 2003 when Greenacres added a full-time garden manager to oversee Greenacres vegetable and ornamental gardens. The program provides education and information to individuals, garden clubs, civic groups, youth groups, and other organizations through classes, workshops, volunteer programs, and special events like the Herb Garden Open House. Staff and volunteers offer a variety of classes and workshops on container gardening, deer resistant plants, edible flowers, forcing bulbs, herb gardening, kitchen gardens, organic gardening, trough gardens and other popular topics. See Greenacres Events Calendar for public program offerings.

Greenacres offers a program called Volunteers for Veggies. Produce from this garden is donated to the Freestore Foodbank and Cincinnati COOKS, a very successful program of the Freestore/Foodbank that teaches at-risk adults skills to become employed in the food industry. Greenacres volunteers also created and maintain a demonstration Herb Garden behind the Greenacres Administrative offices. The Volunteers for Veggies Garden and Greenacres Herb Garden are approved sites for certification in the Ohio State University Extension Master Gardener Program. Other volunteers donate their time to help maintain the ornamental gardens and grounds. Greenacres planted a new demonstration Rain Garden by the Greenacres Arts Center in fall 2007, and volunteers are needed to maintain this garden.
