Please contact Leslie Daly at (513) 374 2388 or ldaly@green-acres.org to select a date and time for your program. All programs will be held at the Greenacres Arts Center. The cost per child ranges from $15 to $20 depending on program. The following is a list of program options:
Ceramics & Clay - Are you interested in a new approach to creative expression? Then do we have programs for you! Clay collected from right out your back door? You bet! Kids will get their hands dirty by collecting small samples of area clay and will learn how it is broken and soaked, forced through screening and poured into slip pancakes. Kids will learn the proper storage techniques, what a slip is and how it is used. A handout with examples of modern ceramics will be handed out. Each child will coil their own pot from the clay collected.
Sounds of Music - Children will make Chilean Rain Sticks from recycled materials. We will discuss the origin of rain sticks and the movement of sound. A handout on the history of Chilean Rain Sticks will be given as children begin to assemble their own. Through the use of paper tubes, toothpicks, rice, beans and paint, kids will make a one of a kind musical instrument capable of inducing rain (or so it is believed)!
Sculpture - Children will watch a short presentation on sculpture. Afterward, we will review and discuss tools, equipment and materials related to this art field. With wire, kids will turn to their partner and using the wire as a line, they will sculpt their partners face.
We will walk around the Arts Center and discuss different types of art, career opportunities and how visual arts strengthens social tolerance, stimulates cultural, intellectual and personal development.
