About Greenacres Foundation
Greenacres Foundation is a non-profit, private operating foundation established in 1988 by Louis and Louise Nippert. The Nipperts purchased Greenacres Farm in 1949 and wanted to preserve the land for the education and enjoyment of future generations. Greenacres Foundation mission is:
- To preserve for the public an area reflecting the traditional environment of Indian Hill and its historical significance by preserving Greenacres in its current state of woodland and farmland.
- To encourage conservation and appreciation of nature by providing the public, particularly children, opportunities to study plant and animal life in their natural settings.
- To encourage appreciation of music and culture by providing facilities and an atmosphere that will encourage artists to display their talents for all age groups.
Greenacres property consists of a variety of habitats that provide many exciting opportunities for hands-on learning and appreciation. Visitors may explore the wonders of water in creeks and ponds, the mysteries of fields and forests or the thrill of agriculture and horticulture. Historical buildings include the Old Church, the Riding Club Barn, the stables and the Arts Center. In order to preserve Greenacres as a place of natural beauty and learning for future generations, all visits are by reservation only and group sizes are limited.
Overview of Programs:
Greenacres Foundation offers a variety of programs and services to individuals and groups of all ages.
- The Arts Education Program provides a culturally rich artistic environment in which children can enjoy music, visual, literary and culinary arts as part of their educational curriculum.
- The Environment and Agriculture Education Program provides a unique opportunity for greater Cincinnati residents to participate in environment and agriculture educational programming utilizing mature forests, streams, old fields, farm ponds and vernal ponds. The fully diversified, grass-based working farm and multiple gardens offer an array of opportunities to learn about sustainable agriculture.
- The Water Quality Project is a community outreach project that works with school groups, citizens, environmental organizations, local communities, government agencies and youth organizations to educate participants about water resource issues and work with them to preserve and protect water resources.
- The Garden Education Program is an educational program that provides opportunities for adults to learn about a variety of gardening topics from container gardening to vegetable gardening.
- The Equine Education Program offers a variety of un-mounted educational opportunities for the inquisitive child or adult. (Visit the event calendar for program information.)
