About the Arts Center

The Greenacres Arts Center is located in the center of the Greenacres South Farm. Greenacres goals for the South Farm are to renovate the manor house, stables, and greenhouse, and to rejuvenate the pastures for use in cultural arts, environment and agriculture, gardening, and equine education programming. Cultural arts programming will take place in the Manor House.

The Manor House was designed by Stanley Mathews in 1923. Construction began in 1924 and the facility was completed in 1927. The architectural style of the Manor House is English Norman. Norman architecture is a type of Romanesque architecture developed by the Normans who conquered Europe in the 11th century. The Normans built castles, fortifications, monasteries, abbeys, churches and cathedrals throughout England that used characteristic rounded arches over doorways and windows known as the Norman Arches. This architectural style is also characterized by massive proportions in simple geometries and sparsely adorned masonry. In the 1940's, Cincinnati architect Carl Strauss, minimalist and modernist, was hired to renovate the facility for the original owners.

The second major renovation of the facility began in 2004 and was completed in 2007. The purpose of the this renovation was to return the building and grounds to their original grandeur, bring the facility up to current building code requirements, and make the necessary modifications needed to create a facility suitable for Greenacres Arts Center programs.

The Arts Center sits upon pastoral land with breathtaking views of trickling fountains, lush gardens, and rolling pastures. Noteworthy outdoor features include a beautiful Tea House, Allèe, Cascading Fountain, Moat, Terrace, Chauffeur Lodge, intricate ironwork, carved leaded gutters and downspouts, hand carved limestone capitals and whimsical wooden corbels.
